STAGE I- Demolition

Well, if you have been reading our blog, you will know that we are in the beginning stages of renovation of Kris's grandma's home in Sandy. We will be moving in in August and have a great deal of work to do before we can move in or we will be homeless or pitching a tent in the back yard :)
Here are some of the beginning photos. We were pleased as punch to discover hard wood floors under the aging carpet. So enjoy!!

This is the smaller living room as you first come into the house. Notice the lovely yellow/orange shag and the purpleish 1940's couch and chair...

AHHH...no more yellow/orange shag! And look at that hardwood. Good thing Kris was wearing the mask...he found a decomposed mouse (skeleton) EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Kris and Nate working hard. This carpet was probably 1950's sears brand. It was soooo heavy and had this plastic backing that was sooo thick. And then the lovely orange pad underneath!! NEATO!

One last picture from yesterday...we got a ton done in about 5 and a half hours! YAHOO. Next stop...removing the wood burning stove and tackling the kitchen!! SO MUCH STUFF!!!

You Might Call Us CRAZY!

Yep, you might call us crazy, because we have announced that we are moving AGAIN! Some people are just not meant to stay in one spot for too long a period. I would love to say this is our final move..that we will never move again. But that just cannot be set in stone yet, I mean, One day I would like to serve a mission with dear husband, one day, I would like to live near an ocean, so as you can see, this may not be the final move, HOWEVER. I can see myself growing old in this home, especially once we renovate it and add on. I can see myself on a snowy December night, lounging in front of the fireplace and reading a good book whilst my kids hang out around me, or grandkids, one day, come to stay and play. I can see myself in the renovated garden, planting, harvesting, taking in the dark earth. I can see a pond (or better yet, a pool) with candles and lillies floating on it, while music plays and people come for a bbq or games or to sit by the firepit. Maybe one day there will be a wedding reception there, in the back yard...maybe the dogs will run and frolic and chase the ball and the birds.
But for now, we rest asured that this is the right decision for us. It is a sacrifice but a blessing as well. You see, it is our time to get prepared for the days ahead. To plan for our family. To make sure goals are met. It is our time to give service to Kris' grandma, who will be 100 in august. To help her financially. To give some measure of service back to a woman who has loved us unconditionally. Who has listened and agreed, who has loved and been so full of energy and joy. She is remarkable. What a blessing to serve her now!
So you might call us crazy, but when you look at this experience through our eyes and our hearts, you will just call us Blessed!

SHE MADE IT

I just thought I would let you know that Caitlyn did a tremendous job on her audition yesterday. She made it through to the finals on the 4th of july. She will be performing around 4pm at Fisher Park in Clearfield. If any of you can make it, please do, as the audience gets to vote for their 2 favorite contestants as well!!
YEAH CAITLYN!
We are especially appreciative of Deanna Gardner for her help. She listened to Caitlyn sing and gave her good tips on getting her sound right where it needed to be. It really helped in the expression of the song and she really held her own!

I Miss Nick

I miss my sweet sweet boy. Where has he gone you ask? He had the opportunity come up to be able to go spend 2 or 3 WEEKS in Colorado!! I looked into his big chocolate brown eyes and when he asked with that apprehensive "Mom, can I go", I just couldnt say no. He is staying with our dear friends, The Walkers, But I miss him terribly already. I walked into the house after he left and already an emptiness encompassed my heart. It is amazing to me the spirit our children bring into our homes and our hearts. Kris said "this is awful, why did you let him go"?? He said that Nick is our son who still likes to hug mom and dad and come and talk to us. He is an amazing young man!
And to make matters worse, Nate leaves for Youth Conf. tomorrow. It will be just Caitlyn, Kris and I...and of course..the dogs! I told Nate, that is it, you cant serve a mission and be gone 2 years..it will just be too hard on my tender mommy heart! He laughed and said, Ok, are you going to tell Heavenly Father that you wont allow me to serve him??? I guess not, but If I miss them like this now, Heavenly Father better protect my heart and bouy me up when they go on missions or I will never make it.
We have now decided that all 3 of our kids will have to live by us forever!!
